Updated : 2024-05-08 (chinadaily.com.cn)

On May 6, 130 million jellyfish seedlings and 191,000 sea bass were released into the waters of Dinghai district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, marking the first fishery resource enhancement and release activity in the city this year.

Over 10 species of seedlings are expected to be released for fishery resource enhancement throughout the city this year, with a total quantity of around 650 million units, according to authorities.

"We have been participating in the fishery resource enhancement and release activities for almost 10 years, with jellyfish and sea bass as the main seedlings. The release quantity increases by 10 to 20 percent annually," noted Zhou Gaomin, who runs an aquaculture farm in the district.

Conducting fishery resource enhancement and release activities contributes to the restoration of marine fishery resources, the improvement of marine ecosystems, and an increase in production and income for fishermen, according to Wan Jun, director of the Fishery Resource Management Division of the Zhoushan Bureau of Marine Economy Development.
