Zhoushan in Zhejiang province has made significant strides in advancing common prosperity, with the per capita disposable income of rural residents reaching 49,379 yuan ($6,820.83) in 2023, according to authorities.

The achievement can be attributed to a series of strategic measures implemented by local authorities, including the facilitation of high-quality development in aquaculture and offshore fisheries, the introduction of initiatives to drive common prosperity on remote islands, and the rollout of supportive policies.

Authorities have introduced 15 support policies to boost aquaculture and offshore fisheries, with a total of 760 million yuan in funding distributed to support enterprises. This initiative aims to drive the transformation and upgrading of traditional fisheries and led to a record high haul of 700,000 metric tons in offshore fishing last year.

An annual allocation of over 35 million yuan has also been designated for the addition new agricultural machinery, enhancing the level of mechanization in island agriculture. the establishment of 50 high-quality science and technology demonstration bases has laid the foundation for a 30-minute agricultural service circle on the islands, providing crucial support for increasing the incomes of fishermen and farmers.

In addition, substantial financial commitments have been made, with nearly 180 million yuan allocated by the local government, aimed at promoting the comprehensive development and capacity upgrading of small islands, bolstering fixed asset investment, and stimulating local employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for fishermen and farmers.

As of the end of 2023, over 200 projects had been successfully implemented, benefiting nearly 50,000 fishermen and farmers.

The local government's commitment to supporting low-income rural households is evident through the annual allocation of 3 million yuan in special funds, along with the implementation of support funds exceeding 8 million yuan.

This initiative has facilitated the assistance of 4,905 low-income rural households, ensuring that at least one person in each household with the ability to work secures employment.
