Putuo district in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province has made significant strides in green development, painting a vibrant and picturesque landscape with lush mountains, verdant waters, dense trees, and the harmonious melodies of birds.

This transformation is the result of a series of concerted efforts by local authorities, including the implementation of its forest chief scheme, the promotion of digital reforms, and proactive measures to green and beautify the land.

Notably, a focus on enhancing forest quality, managing and protecting forest resources, and preventing and controlling forest disasters has been central to these efforts.

In 2023, the district expanded its land greening area by approximately 235 mu (15.67 hectares), with 35 mu designated for afforestation and greening. A detailed forest quality enhancement project covering 2,400 mu and a forest landscape enhancement project were also successfully executed.

Putuo plans to further increase its land greening area by around 526 mu this year, including 26 mu for afforestation and greening, and 500 mu for degraded forest restoration. A detailed forest quality enhancement project covering a further 1,500 mu is also on the agenda.

To support these endeavors, authorities have procured over 10,000 various types of seedlings and fruit trees suitable for island greening, including orange osmanthus, hall crabapple, and Chinese fir.

Furthermore, the district is committed to ensuring the thriving growth of planted seedlings by regularly organizing professional technical personnel to provide on-site guidance.

In addition, Putuo has established a three-tier forest chief organization, comprising 115 forest chiefs and 55 patrol leaders at all levels. This structure is dedicated to the centralized management of potential hazards such as agricultural and forestry fires, as well as forest picnics.
