Zhoushan in Zhejiang province announced the initiation of 15 major projects with a combined investment of 39.2 billion yuan ($5.45 billion) on Feb 18.

Among them, eight projects, amounting to a total investment of 19 billion yuan, have already commenced construction, while seven projects, with a combined investment of 20.2 billion yuan, were inaugurated on the same day.

These projects are set to play a pivotal role in the transformation of Zhoushan into a modern maritime city, as emphasized by a local official.

One of the key features among these initiatives is the Jintang Power Plant project, which aims to build two 660,000-kilowatt ultra-supercritical coal-fired units.

This facility is expected to incorporate ultra-supercritical technology to bolster energy conservation and emissions reduction, thereby contributing to the city's goals of achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality.

Another noteworthy highlight is a sprawling cultural and tourism complex spanning 270,000 square meters, integrating accommodation, hot springs, art, dining, and leisure entertainment. This project is poised to lead the way in establishing new leisure culture and vacation trends in Zhoushan, serving as a vibrant model for the creation of innovative "tourism+" formats and facilitating industrial transformation.
