Zhoushan in Zhejiang province stands among the 97 new cities nationwide meeting gigabit city standards, as recently announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The city housed 43.35 5G base stations per ten thousand people in 2023, with a 58.54 percent 5G user adoption rate. Meanwhile, the 10G-PON port ratio was 47.77 percent, and the proportion of users with speeds of 500Mbps or higher was 28.5 percent, according to authorities.

As of October last year, Zhoushan had achieved 5G signal coverage in urban areas, major scenic spots, townships, and villages' locations, with the 5G network accessibility rate in 72 key locations reaching 100 percent.

Authorities also constructed over 1,180 communication base stations for coastal coverage, significantly improving signal coverage in near-sea areas, waterways, and anchorages.

In addition, a series of actions were taken to enhance wired and wireless access capabilities for islands, including upgrading and transforming the urban area network, accelerating the deployment of XGPON networks, and promoting submarine cable construction.
