Five libraries in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province have been awarded national Class I status, as announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Dec 28, 2023.

A total of 1,302 libraries across the country have been designated Class I.

The five libraries are Zhoushan Library, Dinghai Library, Putuo Library, Daishan Library, and Shengsi Library.

This notable achievement can be attributed to authorities' efforts in recent years to build a robust public cultural service system and foster continued development of the library sector.

The annual circulation of documents in public libraries across the city reached 1.91 million volumes, with an average annual participation of 1.11 million people in lectures, exhibitions, and training programs.

With reader satisfaction rates exceeding 99.42 percent, all public libraries in the city have met the standards for a satisfactory library.

The evaluation and grading of public libraries are conducted every four years, serving as a comprehensive examination of the overall strength and development of the public library sector.
