Zhoushan makes efforts to bolster ship maintenance sector

Updated : 2022-08-10 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Authorities in the Zhoushan area of the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone in East China's Zhejiang province have since this year been making efforts to promote the revival of its ship repair and maintenance industry.

For example, authorities have implemented COVID-19 control and prevention policies to create a stable environment for the city's ship repair industry.

Authorities have since April taken a series of measures to streamline approval procedures to increase the number of vessels that can undergo repair in Zhoushan.

About 200 vessels are repaired by the city's ship maintenance companies every day since May, up more than 30 percent. The combined output value of the ship maintenance industry in the city from January to June was 3.43 billion yuan ($510 million), a year-on-year increase of 36.6 percent.

Authorities have also rolled out policies to encourage major enterprises to develop advanced equipment to help the city's ship repair sector become more sustainable.

In the first half of 2022, more than 50 high value-added vessels had undergone repairs in the city.

The city is also establishing a complete ship repair industrial chain that covers design, maintenance, accessories and marine services.
