Zhoushan deputies to the sixth session of the 13th Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress have made their suggestions to the congress about the improvement of people's wellbeing, local media reported on Jan 21.

The congress was held in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang, from Jan 17 to 21, when the provincial government work report was delivered and discussed.

Zhoushan deputies believe that the construction of a demonstration zone for achieving common prosperity is anchored by the improvement of people's wellbeing, with education being of the utmost importance.

Educator Yang Yongming shared his opinions about the "double reduction" policy, which aims to reduce homework and after-school tutoring pressure and further cut academic workload for primary and middle school students.

He suggested provincial authorities perform thorough research on the implementation of double reduction and solicit feedback from teachers, parents, and students to set an example for educational reform around the country.

Another educator Jiang Guojun proposed the promotion of intelligent education to allow students in mountainous areas and remote islands to learn from outstanding teachers.

Liu Youfei from Xiazhi town, Putuo district spoke about improving elderly care and medical treatment on Zhoushan's islands as 80 percent of the population in Xiazhi are senior residents.

Liu also suggested provincial authorities roll out more favorable policies to boost the development of elderly care service on islands.
