With the novel coronavirus outbreak continuing in places such as Tianjin and Henan province, Zhoushan is encouraging local residents to "stay put" during the coming Spring Festival holiday, local media reported on Jan 12.

The city will offer a subsidy of 500 yuan ($78.62) to every migrant worker from industrial and service companies above designated size as well as those working on major construction projects between Jan 26 and Feb 10.

According to the Zhoushan municipal bureau of economy and information technology, more than 40,000 workers in the city qualify for this subsidy.

The Zhoushan government is also encouraging local telecom carriers and cinemas to provide discounted mobile data packages and free movie tickets to people who stay put in the city during the seven-day holiday which starts Jan 31.
