Zhoushan was one of five cities in Zhejiang province that were recently listed as provincial demonstration cities in developing the hydrogen industry, local media reported on Nov 30.

The provincial authorities state that Zhoushan will promote the utilization of hydrogen cells in port logistics, as well as construct an R&D and innovation platform to explore hydrogen production from renewable energy sources in an effort to create a hydrogen-based offshore supply chain.

By 2025, the city will have over 300 hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles and build more than five hydrogen refueling stations.

The hydrogen industry has been a focus of Zhoushan's economic development. In late 2020, the local government emphasized the need to create an offshore supply chain for hydrogen featuring manufacturing, storage, and delivery capabilities, as well as the production of hydrogen fuel cells.

This year, the city has brought in several hydrogen industry projects, including the hydrogen energy industry chain manufacturing park invested by Zhejiang Runfeng Energy Group Co Ltd and the hydrogen energy research center by Envision Group.
