Zhoushan company starts building new intl bulk carrier

Updated : 2021-04-15 (chinadaily.com.cn)

An 85,000-metric-ton international bulk carrier developed by Zhoushan-based Zhejiang Xin Yi Hai Shipping Co Ltd has started to be built in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, local media reported on April 14.

The bulk carrier is 228.9 meters in length, 36 m in width, and 20.15 m in depth, with a designed draft of 11.8 m and a dead weight of nearly 85,000 tons.

The ship is expected to be eco-friendly and will satisfy the new Panama Canal rules, the latest emission requirements for oxynitride and oxysulfide, as well as the latest regulations on vibration and noise.

It has the smallest linear resistance among its counterparts. Therefore, the ship will be able to carry more cargo under the same draft conditions.

Compared with the current 82,000-ton bulk carriers of Xin Yi Hai, the new ship boasts larger hold capacity, faster speed, and less oil consumption, said Wang Botao, manager of Xin Yi Hai's business department.

Wang added that the ship will be completed by the end of June next year.

In addition, a 51,000-ton shallow water bulk carrier developed by Xin Yi Hai is also under construction and and will be finished this year. The Zhoushan company plans to build more bulk carriers of this kind in the near future.

Currently, Xin Yi Hai has 25 ships engaged in carrying chemicals and bulk cargo with a total shipping ability of 810,000 tons, including eight ships with a total shipping ability of 450,000 tons for foreign trade cargo.
