Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province has set goals for the construction of a beautiful countryside during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, according to the standards of 'beautiful rural areas' construction recently released by the local municipal authority.

By 2022, all villages in the city are expected to meet the standard of a beautiful countryside in the new era and 50 percent of its villages will win provincial recognition.

In addition, Zhoushan will build "10 beautiful islands, 10 beautiful towns, and 10 beautiful scenic belts" by 2022, all of which are expected to receive more than 50,000 tourists per year, with their natural environment, facilities, and services meeting the requirements of 3A-level scenic spots in China.

Furthermore, renovation on the public toilets in fishing villages will be completed during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.
