Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province is aiming to generate 106 billion yuan ($16.31 billion) in tourism revenue this year, local media reported on March 17.

The move will make tourism one of four industries in the city with annual revenue exceeding 100 billion yuan.

In 2021, Zhoushan aims to become the first provincial demonstration city for all-in-one tourism. In order to realize this goal, the city will cultivate one 4A scenic area and two 3A scenic areas. 5A is the highest classification in the country.

Zhoushan also aims to become a model for the development of island parks, and its existing island parks are aiming to attract 30 million tourists and generate more than 50 billion yuan in tourism revenue this year.

The city also plans to invest more than 20 billion yuan in the development of island parks and mobilize 100,000 local residents to participate in the development of the tourism industry.

Furthermore, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Zhoushan will build eight to 10 island parks, hold more than five international competitions per year, and launch one or two international sporting events to boost consumption to at least 1 billion yuan.

Statistics show that in 2020, Zhoushan received 59.44 million tourists and generated 87.11 billion yuan in tourism revenue, both of which were around 80 percent of what they were in 2019.
