Life expectancy in Zhoushan reaches 80.51 years old in 2020

The life expectancy for residents in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province reached 80.51 years old in 2020, a 0.41 years old increase than the 2019 number, local media reported recently.

The life expectancy for male Zhoushan residents totaled 77.77 years old, while that for female Zhoushan residents amounted to 83.28 years old.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2020-25), the life expectancy of Zhoushan residents is expected to increase by 0.93 years old.

Life expectancy is a general indicator to evaluate the economic and social development of a country or a region, as well as its medical and healthcare services.

Among numerous influencing factors of life expectancy, those involving individual's lifestyle and behavior account for 60 percent, including daily health behaviors, reducing bad habits, as well as seeking medical advice.

Malignant tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, heart diseases, respiratory diseases, injuries, and intoxication are the main reasons to negatively affecting life expectancy.

In 2020, the probability of premature death from four major chronic diseases among Zhoushan residents was 10.74 percent, far lower than the 12 percent figure in 2015.

The probability of premature death from chronic diseases refers to the probability of people aged 30 to 69 dying from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, as well as diabetes.
