Zhoushan seafood exports enter cross-border e-commerce market

Updated : 2026-07-01 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Zhejiang Retronx Foodstuff Industry, a seafood company in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, completed the city's first cross-border e-commerce business-to-business direct export on June 29, opening a new channel for local seafood exports.

The order for canned tuna products packed in oil and water, valued at more than $150,000, was placed by a buyer in the Dominican Republic and exported through the company's independent online platform.

This cross-border e-commerce business-to-business direct export model allows companies to sell directly to overseas business customers through cross-border e-commerce platforms while benefiting from simplified customs procedures and shorter trade chains. It also gives exporters greater control over branding and helps reduce reliance on traditional offline negotiations and bulk orders.

To support the pilot shipment, local commerce, customs, and tax authorities worked with exporters to complete business registration, customs filing, export declarations, and tax rebate procedures. Several leading seafood exporters have now completed the necessary cross-border e-commerce registration.

This debut shipment provides a replicable model for local seafood companies seeking to expand into overseas online markets. Putuo plans to build on the model by developing a cross-border e-commerce industrial park and introducing service providers to support online store operations, overseas marketing, and compliance for seafood exporters.
