Zhoushan boosts growth in modern marine industries

Updated : 2025-10-28 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, is accelerating investment and innovation across its nine modern marine industries. A recent example is Tianmu's agreement with the Zhoushan High Tech Industrial Zone to construct a cutting-edge silicon-carbon anode production base.

Since 2023, Zhoushan has focused on developing nine modern marine industries, including green petrochemicals, new materials, clean energy, digital marine technologies, and equipment manufacturing.

Through targeted project attraction, list-based management, and timeline supervision, the city has achieved robust growth. In the first three quarters of 2025, Zhoushan's GDP rose by 6.8 percent year-on-year, while manufacturing investment increased by 28.9 percent, both leading the province. A total of 106 major projects were initiated across nine industries, with planned investment totaling 34.85 billion yuan ($4.9 billion).

Fifty-five industrial subfields were mapped to identify gaps and manage projects using four dynamic lists that track project initiation, construction, and production.

Project recruitment remains a key growth engine. Earlier this year, Zhoushan outperformed nearly 20 cities to secure a 1.3-billion-yuan automotive semiconductor project from a leading Shenzhen firm.

Meanwhile, the city continues to enhance its industrial platforms, including eight major innovation hubs. Notably, the Daishan New Materials Research and Pilot Base of Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has attracted 12 projects and over 50 high-level professionals, further fueling Zhoushan's high-quality marine industrial ecosystem.
