Zhoushan Putuoshan International Airport tops 2m passengers

Updated : 2025-09-25 (chinadaily.com.cn)

The Zhoushan Putuoshan International Airport in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, reported that its passenger throughput exceeded 2 million as of Sept 22.

It had reached the milestone 23 days earlier than last year, representing a year-on-year rise of 7.15 percent.

After the traditional off-season in July, flights to southern Fujian resumed, followed by the relaunch of services by Shandong Airlines.

Since Sept 21, the Linyi–Zhoushan–Xiamen route has operated four times a week, while the Quanzhou–Zhoushan–Qingdao service restarted on Sept 22 with three weekly flights.

Two CRJ-900 aircraft from China Express were also stationed at the airport, boosting point-to-point connections with cities such as Wenzhou, Yancheng, and Hefei.

The airport has also promoted the integration of aviation and tourism. Marketing campaigns, destination partnerships and travel agency cooperation all stimulated visitor interest, while a collaboration with Fuzhou Airlines combined local sports events with livestream promotions.

To accommodate rising demand, ground services upgraded their facilities and passenger services. A shared bookshelf project, for example, now provides both reading materials and insights into Zhoushan's culture.

Dedicated service areas were set up for passengers with special needs, offering devices such as hearing aids and braille materials. A new calligraphy corner in the remote boarding lounge now adds cultural activities during waiting time.

Looking ahead to the winter and spring season, the airport plans to add 56 weekly flights, bringing the total to 642.
