A welcome ceremony for three graduate students from Rufisque in Senegal was held at Zhejiang Ocean University in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on Sept 16.
The ceremony marks a step forward in education cooperation between the two regions. The students' admission follows the signing of a friendship and exchange agreement between Zhoushan and Rufisque.
According to the university's international office, the candidates underwent interviews with a panel of professors before being accepted. They were enrolled in programs focusing on fisheries, marine biology and food processing and safety.
The program combines support from local government and the university, aiming to provide quality education opportunities for Senegalese youth. It also reflects growing cooperation in fields linked to ocean studies and applied sciences.
According to Oumar Cisse, mayor of Rufisque, this is expected to encourage cross-cultural exchanges and strengthen academic links. The collaboration also points to future opportunities for cooperation in other sectors between Zhoushan and Rufisque.
By welcoming students from Rufisque, Zhejiang Ocean University is deepening its academic and cultural engagement across borders — laying the foundation for broader cooperation in education and beyond.
