Nearly 2,500 specially licensed fishing vessels set sail from Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province on Aug 5, marking the start of the fishing season.

The departing fleet includes boats authorized for four types of operations: outrigger trawling, cage and pot fishing, gillnets, and light-purse seine nets.

Each vessel targets different categories of seafood. Trawlers focus on shrimp species such as red shrimp, sand shrimp, and slipper lobster. Cage and pot boats are expected to bring back crabs and cephalopods. Gillnet vessels aim to catch yellow croaker and pomfret, while light-purse seine boats target mackerel, ribbonfish, and chub mackerel.

With such variety, local seafood markets expect a rapid influx of fresh catches within one to three days. The return of diverse seafood options has stirred excitement among consumers eager for seasonal favorites.
