Zhoushan's shipbuilder highlights China's ESG model in Norway

Updated : 2025-06-23 (chinadaily.com.cn)

IMC Shipyard (Zhoushan), a company based in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, recently appeared alongside Det Norske Veritas (DNV) at the Nor-Shipping, a maritime trade expo in Norway, one of the industry's most influential events globally.

The collaboration aimed to promote sustainable development in global ship repair, presenting a Chinese environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework as a replicable model for the international market.

Since the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement in July 2024, IMC and DNV have integrated ESG principles into all aspects of ship repair operations. Together, they developed an ESG management system tailored for shipyards, released a sustainability report template to enhance corporate transparency, and launched a digital ESG management platform with real-time carbon monitoring.

Furthermore, the two entities collaboratively established a reference guideline for ESG development and assessment in the ship repair industry, now serving as a standardized model for global application.

This year's Nor-Shipping expo drew nearly 1,000 exhibitors from 52 countries and regions, with IMC's presence highlighting Zhoushan's increasing role in shaping green innovation in maritime services.

A representative from IMC expressed the company's commitment to continuing its collaboration with DNV to promote responsible, intelligent, and green supply chain systems within the global ship repair industry.
