The Shengsi Marine Paper-cutting, a special folk art rooted in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, recently captivated audiences in Paris.
Chen Shiding, a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage inheritor of Shengsi Marine Paper-cutting, brought the traditional Chinese craft to the banks of the River Seine in the French capital as part of a Zhejiang delegation of paper-cutting artists touring Europe for cultural exchanges.
More than 20 artists from Zhejiang presented their works during the 2025 Festival International du Dragon Boat in Paris. Over 6,000 locals witnessed a display of intricate paper-cutting artworks that embodied Chinese folk traditions.
During a special session at the Confucius Institute in Paris, Chen presented his paper-cutting series themed on "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter: Happiness Through the Seasons". The artworks served as cultural symbols conveying best wishes and friendship through artistic expression.
Chen also gifted pieces to the representatives of local officials and overseas Chinese, further expanding Zhoushan's international cultural network.
Following the Paris visit, the delegation will continue its cultural exchanges in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, promoting Chinese folk art across Europe.
