A major upgrade to the steel deck of Zhoushan Cross-Sea Bridge has been completed in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, which will significantly improve travel conditions.

The project focused on the main lane of the Jintang Bridge heading toward Zhoushan, considered as the core area of the cross-sea route, which now has a refreshed surface.

As a vital transportation link between Zhoushan islands and inland areas, the Jintang Bridge supports regional economic activity and daily commuting. Years of increasing traffic and heavy loads had caused structural wear such as cracks and potholes. In response, Zhoushan implemented phased repairs, with this latest round delivering a deep structural overhaul to eliminate hidden risks and improve performance.

To minimize traffic disruptions, crews adopted a nighttime and staggered work schedule. It took just 39 minutes to close the 1.21-kilometer segment for construction. Despite a tight timeline and variable weather, the team maintained progress using rotating shifts to ensure continuous work. Real-time traffic monitoring and coordination with highway police helped maintain flow, with hard shoulders opened during peak hours to ease congestion.

The deck was restored using the technique of "single-layer milling and resurfacing", coupled with stone matrix asphalt to improve skid resistance, durability, and wear tolerance.

The project finished two days ahead of schedule, positioning the bridge for increased summer traffic and reaffirming its role as a safe and efficient travel route.
