89-yr-old entrepreneur in Zhoushan starts 2nd business

Updated : 2025-05-06 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Liu Fumin is an 89-year-old entrepreneur embarking on his second business venture. He is aiming to innovate and contribute significantly to the development of Shengsi county, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.

At the age of 42, Liu was working in a chemical plant and was inspired by the reform and opening-up policies to pursue his long-held entrepreneurial dream in 1978. Six years later, he founded the Xingfu Machinery Factory, specializing in the production of fishing gear.

Not only did he become a leader in fishing gear, but he also provided employment opportunities for 11 disabled individuals under the status of a welfare enterprise.

Liu keenly observed the wide application prospects of gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide in the medical and industrial sectors. Recognizing the relatively weak production supply of these gases in Shengsi, he saw new market opportunities.

Liu embarked on a second entrepreneurial venture by opening a second Xingfu Machinery Factory this year, focusing on the production and storage of gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide.

He said, "If you're going to do something, do it well and persist until the end. This is my determination. Life is short, but you must leave a mark on society. Life goes on, and so does the career."

The second Xingfu Machinery Factory has recently started its full-scale operation on Zhongzhu Mountain in Shengsi, covering an area of 3,744 square meters with a total investment of over 8 million yuan ($1 million).
