Ningbo Zhoushan Port in East China's Zhejiang province deployed the DeepSeek-R1 model in its intelligent gate system on Feb 14, marking the first global application of the DeepSeek-R1 model in smart gate operations.

DeepSeek-R1, the latest open-source AI model developed by Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, has been garnering global attention due to its cost-effectiveness and high performance.

"With the integration of the DeepSeek-R1 model, the computational resource consumption for intelligent recognition services has significantly decreased, allowing the system to handle more tasks within the same timeframe, and the image recognition accuracy and response speed are now industry-leading," said an image recognition expert from Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group's Information and Communication Company.

This deployment has ushered the 4.0 era of Ningbo Zhoushan Port's intelligent gate system, which includes upgraded service architecture, functional modules, and monitoring systems.

In terms of functionality, the upgrade allows the intelligent gate system to simultaneously recognize license plates, container numbers, and seal numbers. A new intelligent seal number recognition module has been added, increasing the comprehensive recognition rate to over 80 percent in all operating conditions.

The intelligent monitoring system provides comprehensive overview of gate equipment, programs, and algorithms, reducing fault warning response times to under 30 minutes and greatly enhancing gate passage efficiency.

Currently, this upgraded system has been fully implemented across multiple terminals within the Ningbo Zhoushan Port area, handling over 20,000 twenty-foot equivalent units daily.
