Passengers at the Banshengdong Passenger Terminal in Putuo district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, boarded the ferry Xin Hai Hua 28 on the morning of Jan 14 to return home during the first day of the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush.

The 40-day 2025 Spring Festival travel period kicked off on Jan 14. This year, Zhoushan has deployed 151 passenger ferries, expecting to transport over 4 million passengers between the islands.

On the ferry Xin Hai Hua 28, officials from local maritime authorities inspected the main and auxiliary engines, fire safety and lifesaving equipment, and crew staffing. They also urged the crew to strictly adhere to watchkeeping regulations and maintain high-frequency monitoring.

"Captain, today marks the start of the 2025 Spring Festival travel period. The waters around Zhoushan are crowded with vessels. Please be cautious of passing ships when departing and maintain vigilant watch during the voyage," officials advised during the onboard inspection.

At the Da'ao Passenger Terminal of Liuheng Island in Putuo district, officials from local maritime authorities provided volunteer services to passengers, including inquiry guidance, order maintenance, security check assistance, luggage handling, and support for the elderly and infirm, ensuring safe boarding and disembarking.
