As Spring Festival approaches, Zhoushan International Aquatic City, a large shopping center for aquatic products in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, is experiencing a sales boom, with seafood orders increasing nationwide and online platforms seeing a sales surge.

In the aquatic product market, stalls are lined with fresh fish. "We're at the peak of Spring Festival sales. Premium products like large pomfret, Zhoushan hairtail, large yellow croaker, and red roe crabs are must-haves for customers," says Wang Yongqin, a stall owner in the Zhoushan International Aquatic City.

Despite a noticeable decline in coastal fishing yields since early last year, demand in the Spring Festival market remains strong. With demand exceeding supply, seafood prices are expected to remain high during the Spring Festival holiday.

In 2024, Zhoushan International Aquatic City saw steady growth in seafood transactions. It achieved a trading volume of 1.05 million metric tons and a transaction value of 20.51 billion yuan ($2.80 billion), marking increases of 5.2 percent and 2.47 percent from the previous year. Online seafood transactions reached 904 million yuan, up 12.5 percent year-on-year.
