Zhoushan Art Museum, located within the Putuo Marine Culture Industrial Park in Putuo district, Zhoushan, is a wide-ranging art museum integrating exhibition, collection, and academic research.
The museum boasts a total construction area of 11,200 square meters, with 2,050 square meters dedicated to exhibition space and 1,000 square meters for art collection storage. It features five exhibition halls, along with a multimedia screening room, an academic lecture hall, meeting rooms, youth training rooms, artist studios, and leisure facilities.
Designed by Wang Shu, the recipient of the 2012 Pritzker Architecture Prize, the museum's exterior resembles a reef within the waves. From the high-rise buildings across the Shenjiamen Fishing Port, one can appreciate its subtle reference to the composition of Chinese landscape paintings, adding to the unique charm of this museum.
The museum will officially open to the public on Dec 7 and there will be free admission. Its opening exhibition will run until Aug 24, 2025. The museum is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, with the last entry at 4:00 pm. It is closed on Mondays and public holidays.
The opening exhibition brings together works from 16 prominent contemporary artists and groups from both domestic and international scenes.
