The Museum of East Zhejiang School Studies opened in Dinghai district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province on Oct 14.

Taking shape in the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the East Zhejiang School is one of the most influential schools in the history of Zhejiang. Scholars of this school focus on the study of history and advocate the pursuit of successful solutions to practical needs.

As an extensive cultural space, the museum spans 2,500 square meters and includes a memorial exhibition hall, a ritual culture space, and an outdoor activity area.

Visitors can explore a rich collection of historical writings, artifacts, and calligraphy, especially the works of Huang Shisan (1789-1862) and Huang Yizhou (1828-99), gaining insight into the enduring legacy of the East Zhejiang School and the deep cultural roots of Zhoushan's Dinghai.

Born in Zhoushan's Dinghai, Huang Shisan and Huang Yizhou were key figures in the East Zhejiang School. At 409 volumes collectively, their works account for half of all historical writings from Zhoushan, many of which are considered top-tier academic contributions in China.

The local government plans to organize cultural activities that develop the museum into an important base for study tours and a new cultural tourism landmark in not only Zhoushan but all of East Zhejiang.
