In the southeastern waters of Xiushan Island in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, the LHD Zhoushan tidal current power station continuously generates clean energy by capturing tidal currents.

This power station was developed by Zhejiang Zhoushan LHD Energy Development Co, which mainly researches low-head hydropower.

The Spotlight on Ocean Energy, a report released by the International Energy Agency's Ocean Energy Systems, listed this project among the top 20 ocean energy projects worldwide, ranking first in tidal current energy.

Developed independently in China, the LHD Zhoushan tidal current power station earned recognition as the world's first ocean tidal current power station by being online for over a year.

In 2016, the first LHD modular tidal current energy generator platform was launched at Xiushan. Six months later, the first unit began generating power and successfully connected to the national grid a month later.

The project's first phase overcame major challenges in high-power generation, stable output, and staying connected to the grid, which marked a milestone in global tidal current energy development.

The LHD's fourth-generation 1.6-megawatt tidal current energy turbine, Endeavor, was launched in 2022, and marked a significant milestone as the world's largest single-unit tidal current energy generator to successfully generate power and connect to the grid.

As of Oct 7 this year, the LHD tidal current power station has been running continuously for over seven years, generating over 7.05 million kilowatt-hour and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 5,584 metric tons.
