Innovation revives yellow croaker breeding in Zhoushan

Updated : 2024-09-11 (ezhejiang.gov.cn)

A batch of live large yellow croakers was delivered by drone, taking just over 10 minutes to fly across the sea from the Dingzuimen deep-sea aquaculture base on Changtu Island to a restaurant on Daishan Island in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, on Aug 30.

Traditionally, ground and sea transportation would take about two hours. Drone delivery is not only faster and more efficient but also allows residents to enjoy fresher seafood.

In recent years, Daishan county in Zhoushan has been exploring the low-altitude economy by integrating low-altitude logistics.

The Daiquyang area, the sea between Daishan Island and Qushan Island, was once one of the world's most important breeding and habitat areas for the large yellow croaker. These fish, known as Daiquyang large yellow croakers, were named after their habitat.

The Dingzuimen aquaculture base is the first deep-sea cage aquaculture base for the Daiquyang large yellow croaker. It was established by Daishan's marine and fishery departments.

As a species unique to Daishan, local efforts have been made to enhance the reputation of the Daiquyang large yellow croaker by nurturing and protecting its habitat through scientific and ecological aquaculture methods.

Daishan county completed the deployment of artificial reefs for its first marine ranching demonstration project at Daxizhai Marine Ranch on April 17. This project aims to create a conducive environment for marine life to reproduce.
