Daishan county in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province experienced rapid economic growth in 2023, with its GDP amounting to 80 billion yuan ($11.11 billion), a year-on-year increase of 12.6 percent, according to authorities.

The county's exports, the added value of its large-scale industries and its service sector also saw impressive growth, rising 80.2 percent, 18.7 percent, and 14.1 percent, respectively.
The county's total industrial output value exceeded 270 billion yuan in 2023, with the petrochemical industry achieving a total output value of 254.86 billion yuan, a 10.1 percent increase over the previous year.

This strong performance can be largely attributed to the implementation of a raft of measures rolled out by authorities, including establishing a complete petrochemical industrial chain, creating high-tech innovation platforms, and optimizing the business environment.

The county is currently home to 66 companies engaged in the petrochemical industrial chain, in addition to its green petrochemical base.

Daishan has been focusing on establishing advanced scientific and technological innovation platforms, particularly in leading industrial chains such as new materials, high-end marine equipment, and clean energy. The added value of high-tech industries accounts for an impressive 95.8 percent of its industrial sectors.

Authorities are also making efforts to create a business-friendly environment by helping enterprises participate in exhibitions and fairs and establishing an enterprise service center.
