The Southeast Tournament of the Chinese University Basketball Association League (CUBAL) is set to commence on March 22 in Putuo, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province.

The opening match of this year's event will feature a clash between two formidable basketball teams — the Ningbo University Men's Basketball Team and the Zhejiang University Men's Basketball Team. They have a history of intense encounters, with victories and losses on both sides.

Over the past decade, the men's basketball team of Ningbo University has achieved remarkable milestones. They secured a spot in the national top eight in the 13th National Top 16 Tournament, clinched the Southeast Championship in the 15th and 23rd editions, and achieved a commendable fourth place in the 22nd and 24th national tournaments.

Wang Fanyi, a forward for the  team, hails from Zhoushan. Wang made a significant impact in the 24th CUBAL, boasting an average of 20.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.

His exceptional performance played a pivotal role in Ningbo University's advancement to the CUBAL national top four, earning him a well-deserved spot on the national second team. He is the first player in the history of the Ningbo University men's basketball team to achieve this honor.

In the previous year's 25th CUBAL, the Zhejiang University men's basketball team demonstrated their prowess by overcoming formidable opponents such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University and China University of Mining and Technology in the knockout stage, securing a spot in the top four. In the battle for third and fourth place, they also emerged victorious against East China Normal University, ultimately claiming third place in the Southeast Division.
