Nation's first innovative demonstration base for tuna industry settles in Zhoushan

Updated : 2024-01-22 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Zhoushan, the largest offshore fishing production base in China, achieved national recognition as it was named the country's inaugural "Tuna Industry Innovation Demonstration Base" during the opening ceremony of the first China Yangtze River Delta Tuna Industry Innovation and Development Conference on Jan 16.

With over 120 operational tuna fishing vessels and an annual output exceeding 70,000 metric tons, Zhoushan contributes 40 percent of the national total, solidifying its position as the primary domestic port for self-caught, deep-sea tuna imports.

In recent years, Zhoushan has strategically aligned itself with the development of China's deep-sea fishing industry. This has been accomplished through the bolstering of leading enterprises in the sector, fostering collaboration among industry, universities, and research institutes, and advancing the comprehensive development of the entire "from fish to dish" industrial chain.

Leveraging the momentum of this conference, Zhoushan aims to embark on a new phase within the industry, with a focus on bolstering technological innovation, enhancing fishing equipment and technological capabilities, pioneering new processing techniques and products, and elevating product quality and market competitiveness.
