The first domestically-built oil-electric hybrid full-revolving tugboat was delivered at Zhoushan Port in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province on Dec 25.
The ship, which has a length of 39 meters, a beam of 10.6 meters, a depth of 4.9 meters, and a horsepower of 5000, is primarily used for assisting large vessels entering and exiting the port and for escort operations.
The vessel utilizes a parallel oil-electric hybrid propulsion system, combining traditional diesel engines with electric motors powered by batteries. The diesel propulsion system is equipped with two main diesel engines, each with a power of 1840 kW. The electric propulsion system is equipped with two 450 kW reversible shaft-mounted electric motors and a 2096 kWh battery pack.
In pure electric mode, the vessel consumes zero fuel and emits zero pollutants during navigation and operations, unlike the fuel-inefficient and highly-polluting traditional tugboats.
The vessel can switch rapidly between four modes: fuel-powered mode, pure electric mode, generator mode, and hybrid mode.
