Dinghai district in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province witnessed rapid growth in high-tech industry from January to September this year, with 21 projects with a combined investment of 5.11 billion yuan ($704.03 million) launched, a year-on-year increase of 116.7 percent.

This strong performance was largely due to a series of actions taken by authorities, including the establishment of areas designed to promote innovation such as the Marine Science Town, the Zhoushan High-tech Industrial Park, and the Ship Equipment High-tech Industrial Park.

Zhoushan Litu Information Technology Co is a high-tech enterprise based in the Marine Science Town engaged in providing data support for fisheries. It is playing a leading role in bolstering the district's marine electronic information industry.

Authorities have also been focusing on attracting more high-tech projects related to marine engineering equipment manufacturing and marine biomedicine, with deals for six such projects signed this year.

The local government is planning to roll out more favorable policies to create a conducive innovation environment, said a local official.

The district is currently home to 160 high-tech companies and 230 enterprises above designated size.
