Construction on the 890-million-yuan ($124.76 million) waterway at Zhoushan Port in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province started on Nov 28.

The 48-kilometer waterway, which was designed for tidal navigation by 300,000-ton oil tankers (with a draft of 20.5 meters) with a guaranteed tidal utilization rate of 90 percent, is expected to be put into operation by March, 2025.

The facility will have significant implications for enhancing the integrated transportation system of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, making the port more globally-competitive, and promoting the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta region, according to authorities.
