Dinghai district in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province has in recent years been focusing on standardized disposal and resource utilization of general solid waste.
Authorities have implemented a series of measures, including constructing a general solid waste transportation system, introducing high-quality solid waste transportation and disposal companies, and creating a closed-loop management chain by using digital technologies to achieve "reduction, resource utilization, and harmlessness" in solid waste disposal.
Huang Yunjin, deputy general manager of Zhoushan Jinke Resource Recycling Co, said that his company recently launched an intelligent recycling system, which makes it possible to achieve full visualization and traceability from waste generation points to collection and disposal.
The system is also linked with the city's "Smart City Management" and "Smart Environmental Protection" systems, enabling data sharing and information exchange. Through the platform data, regulatory departments can grasp in real-time the amount of waste generated by waste-producing enterprises, and reduce carbon emissions through recycling, effectively supervising illegal activities such as improper dumping, landfilling, and random disposal of waste. This system also provides technical support for future carbon trading, said an employee of the city's ecological environmental bureau.
In addition, authorities have adopted digital technologies to improve the efficiency and standardization of solid waste collection and transportation and further optimize the construction of the general solid waste collection system in the district.
