Ningbo Zhoushan Port in East China's Zhejiang province handled a cargo throughput of 1.02 billion metric tons in the first three quarters of this year, a yearly uptick of 5.85 percent, according to authorities.

Meanwhile, its container throughput edged up 3.56 percent to 27.26 million TEUs.

The remarkable achievement was largely due to the implementation of a series of measures rolled out by authorities, including strengthening cooperation with global shipping giants and increasing efforts to develop routes and flights in countries and regions along the Belt and Road Initiative.

Currently, the port has opened a total of 301 container shipping routes, establishing connectivity with over 200 countries and regions worldwide, including over 600 ports. This year, over 4,200 flights as part of the Belt and Road Initiative have been successfully completed, providing convenience and support for global trade exchanges.

In addition, the port has been continuously expanding its multimodal transportation logistics channels and strengthening joint ventures and cooperation with railways, shipping companies, and shippers. Its high-quality sea-rail intermodal transportation services have extended to places like Chongqing.

In the first three quarters of this year, sea-rail intermodal transportation at the port achieved a year-on-year growth of 12.3 percent. In addition, containerized river-sea intermodal transportation and domestic container business also achieved double-digit year-on-year growth.
