Biodiversity conservation efforts in recent years in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, have yielded remarkable results.

Specifically, Boletellus putuoensis was discovered in the city's Putuo district in September 2022, a new species of Boletus. The wild populations of the nationally protected species - Chinese pangolin and leopard cat, have been observed and the livestream of the Chinese crested tern in 2023 has already reached an impressive 73.18 million views on various online platforms.

Zhoushan has completed the first marine biodiversity survey in the province and the first terrestrial biodiversity survey of all categories of islands after three years of effort. The investigation has identified one completely new species, 28 species new to China, and over 100 species new to the province.

Zhoushan will aim to become a "biodiversity-friendly city" and further improve the policy and regulatory system for biodiversity conservation by strengthening biodiversity investigation, monitoring, evaluation, and intelligent regulation.

Authorities will also enhance the protection and restoration of important ecosystems and promote the sustainable utilization of biodiversity based on the characteristics of its islands.

In addition, the local government will encourage all of society to participate in biodiversity conservation through activities such as the establishment of cultural centers and the creation of ecological civilization knowledge zones.
