Putuo district in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province has been ramping up efforts to improve water supply facilities on its Hulu Island in an attempt to aid its common prosperity drive.

For example, four integrated water purification systems and six water collection points were set up in 2020, and simplified household water supply networks were installed for 114 households. In 2022, the district completed the construction of the seawater desalination plant, installed 100-ton daily seawater desalination equipment, and laid water supply networks for over 800 households on the island.

Zhao Saili, a resident of the island who runs a homestay, said that the upgraded infrastructure and facilities are crucial to attracting more tourists to the island.

Authorities have also strengthened the operation and maintenance management mechanism of seawater desalination equipment, and regularly conduct inspections of seawater desalination projects and water transmission pipelines, said a local official.

In addition, the municipal water company has also dispatched staff with experience in seawater desalination operations to be stationed on-site on the island for management. If residents on the island encounter any water supply issues, they can contact village committee staff or call the hotline for coordinated handling.
