Putuo district in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, has taken a series of actions to improve its urban and rural landscapes to welcome the upcoming 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, to be held from Sept 23 to Oct 8.

For example, the district has spent more than 9.74 million yuan ($1.34 million) in clearing 4,290 metric tons of garbage and waste, cleaning 504 ditches and 331 areas of disorderly stacking and dumping, dismantling 675 unauthorized constructions, rectifying 61 pipelines, and reclaiming 745 mu (49.67 hectares) of wasteland.
As a result, a tapestry featuring beautiful villages, boutique homestays, and characteristic streets is unfolding in the district.
