The 1st Ecological Festival was held in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on Aug 15, to celebrate National Ecology Day that falls on the same day.

The festival that will run until the end of December is aimed at improving people's awareness and participation in environmental protection.

A series of activities such as children painting on discarded egg cartons, various stalls showcasing environmental products including eco-friendly books, handmade eco-friendly bags, and eco-friendly crafts were featured.

Shao Jiaming, a resident in the district, said his child has not only enhanced his hands-on abilities but also learned about environmental protection; he hopes that all children can incorporate this environmental awareness and habit into their future lives.

Staff members also conducted environmental law popularization and knowledge promotion on "zero waste cities", low-carbon energy-saving techniques, and biodiversity conservation, allowing citizens to gain a deeper understanding of ecological civilization.

"We will take this activity as an opportunity to guide more people to truly experience the achievements of Putuo's ecological protection efforts, and actively participate in them, becoming communicators and practitioners of environmental protection," said a staff member of the Putuo ecological environment bureau.
