Over the past 20 years, Zhoushan has been actively carrying out the project of renovating villages to improve residents' living environment. Thanks to the project, the once declining fishing villages have been revitalized. The remarkable beauty of Dongxiao village reflects the city's successful efforts in environmental restoration and the enhancement of its rural ecological charm.

In recent years, Dongxiao village has tapped into the potential of tourism development, capitalizing on its pristine island scenery to promote leisure tourism. Numerous homestays have sprung up, firmly establishing themselves in this idyllic location. In 2022 alone, the village welcomed over 50,000 visitors, generating tourism income of 45 million yuan ($6.2 million).

The integration of fishing and tourism has not only revitalized the village but also opened up new paths for shared prosperity among fishermen and farmers. Currently, Dongxiao village boasts 16 high-quality homestays, attracting a cumulative investment of over 60 million yuan.

With its transformation from a declining fishing village to a thriving tourist destination, Dongxiao village showcases the symbiotic relationship between nature, culture, and sustainable development.
