Daishan's high-quality development

Daishan county in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, has over the past two decades made remarkable achievements in social and economic development.

Specifically, the county's GDP in 2022 increased 18 percent year-on-year, the added value of its large-scale industries expanded 25.5 percent year-on-year, ranking first and second in the province, and its GDP in the first quarter of this year rose by 9.9 percent.

The county has signed agreements on 10 projects this year related to green petrochemicals and new materials, shipbuilding and marine engineering, and clean power.

Daishan has also attracted 42 high-caliber talents in fields such as green new materials, marine engineering equipment, and the digital economy.

In addition to maintaining economic growth, the county has channeled more resources into improving people's well-being and upgrading infrastructure including parks, cultural venues and transport facilities.

Daishan has also made significant strides in rural vitalization over the past 20 years. Huang Yuping, deputy director of the county's bureau of agriculture and rural affairs, said authorities have taken a series of actions, including improving the living environment in rural areas, nurturing specialty industries, strengthening public services and launching digital reform, to improve the landscape of rural areas.

The upgraded landscape attracts tourists and investors, which injects new vitality into villages, said Zhou Lingling, who runs a camping site in the county's Tukou village.

The per capita disposable income of residents in the county's fishing villages in 2022 was 46,115 yuan ($6,417.89).
