Putuo district in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province has made remarkable achievements in modern marine economy, urban landscape and social governance over the past 20 years.

Specifically, Putuo has in recent years been striving to bolster its marine industries. The output of its pelagic fishery industry accounts for 20 percent of the national total, and the district is also home to China's largest green ship repair base.

It has also channeled more resources into building a complete oil and gas industrial chain that covers international marine and bulk commodity financial services, and is bolstering its clean power industry.

In addition to developing its economy, Putuo has been focusing on upgrading its urban landscape by building coastal greenways, upgrading infrastructure, and advancing rural vitalization.

The district received provincial recognition for its rural vitalization efforts, including developing industries, strengthening public services and protecting the ecological environment on its small and remote islands.

Putuo has also made a series of innovations to improve social governance, including providing one-stop conflict mediation service, rolling out digital application scenarios, and launching public programs.

The district is currently home to 10 town-level one-stop conflict mediation centers and 75 centers at the village level.
