Shengshan Island, the easternmost inhabited island in China, has undergone a remarkable transformation from a traditional fishing village to a trendy destination with high-end resorts. The village of Sizhoutang in Shengshan township in Shengsi county of East China's Zhejiang province is now a colorful and picturesque settlement, with houses built along the mountainside, resembling a mini "Potala Palace" on the sea.
However, it wasn't always this way. The village used to suffer from garbage accumulation, unregulated construction, and disorganized fishing equipment.
The turnaround came when Shengshan Island seized the opportunity of implementing the Green Rural Revival Program, which was put forward two decades ago. The program offers a solid path to promoting integrated urban-rural development, advancing rural revitalization and striving for common prosperity.
Shengsi county has been recognized as an outstanding performer in the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy for the year 2022. It has been awarded the title of a model county for beautiful countryside in Zhejiang province.
Since 2003, Shengsi county has prioritized the improvement of people's daily lives, setting the stage for village improvements in terms of layout optimization, road construction, village greenery, lighting, sanitation, and environmental beautification.
In the past twenty years, Shengsi has vigorously pushed forward the "three major revolutions" concerning garbage, sewage, and toilets in rural fishing and farming villages to improve people's living environment.
