Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province held a news conference on June 19 to announce the commencement of its 1st ocean-themed entrepreneurship contest.

Ocean University of China, Shanghai Ocean University, Dalian Ocean University, Guangdong Ocean University, Jiangsu Ocean University, Hainan Tropical Ocean University, and several ocean schools of universities will be invited to participate in the contest.

Thirty-five projects related to cultural and creative products, intelligent manufacturing and ocean entrepreneurship will be showcased.

All entries need to be original and of high commercial value, and contestants need to be college students of the aforementioned ocean universities or their graduates within 10 years. The final contest will be held at the end of August.

Each contest item will set one first prize, two second prizes, and three third prizes, as well as several excellence prizes, with bonuses of 10,000 yuan ($1,392.48), 5,000 yuan, 2,000 yuan and 1,000 yuan respectively.

Projects that become registered in Zhoushan by the end of December are expected to receive subsidies of up to 300,000 yuan.

The contest is designed to act as a bridge connecting government agencies and college students, and will play a significant role in attracting entrepreneurship projects and high-caliber talent, said local authorities.
