Donghai Greenway in Dinghai district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, opened to the public on May 27.
The 25-kilometer greenway originated from the roads left behind by the water conservancy project on five mountains – Dongshan Mountain, Changgang Mountain, Leigu Mountain, Haishan Mountain, and Zhushan Mountain – in Dinghai.
A series of activities like brisk walking and hiking was held on the day.
Han Xinhai, a running enthusiast and trail running promoter, said that the greenway has become a popular destination among cyclists, hikers and runners, and more sports events are to be held on it.
Supporting facilities such as drinking water taps, leisure chairs, shared power banks, and first-aid kits have been established along the greenway.
Authorities have also drawn on some elements of the greenway to develop cultural and creative products in an effort to integrate culture and tourism, which will in turn aid its common prosperity drive.
The greenway featuring the district's ecological and cultural landscapes is a great place for an idyllic escape, said a local official.
