The 6th National Marine Technology Conference was held in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province on May 19.

More than 1,200 scholars, experts, business elites and youth students engaged in the research of marine technology and equipment attended the event, during which they shared their marine technology research and applied research achievements, as well as discussed new trends  related to marine technology and equipment.

He Zhongwei, Party secretary of Zhoushan, said at the conference that the city is taking a series of measures to optimize the innovation environment, including building a marine science and technology innovation center, establishing a modern marine industrial system, and setting up public services platforms.

He added that the city is also channeling more resources towards developing industries such as petrochemical new materials, high-end intelligent equipment manufacturing, marine biomedicine, and marine electronic information and expressed his expectation that more entrepreneurs will seize the opportunity to invest in Zhoushan.

Wang Lizhong, vice president of the Zhejiang University, noted at the conference that Zhejiang University has been focusing on marine technology innovation and is working with Zhoushan to open new fields for marine technology, conduct interdisciplinary research and cooperate with enterprises to advance the integration of industries and universities.

The conference, which was set to be held permanently in Zhoushan in 2015, is held biennially. It has served as a platform for the advancement of marine technology exchange and cooperation. A series of events such as marine technology exhibitions and academic lectures were also held during the conference.
