Six ancient relics were spotted recently in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, local media reported on May 12.

The relics, which are scatted across Jintang town in Dinghai district, can be traced back to the New Stone Age, the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (770-256 BC), and the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

Ren Jiguo, deputy director of the city's cultural relic archaeology research institute, said that the burnt-soil blocks and pottery shards found in the relics indicate that the town was probably an ancient settlement.

He added that conducting field surveys is key to the protection, utilization of and research into Zhoushan's cultural relic resources, and he and his colleagues will carry out an in-depth investigation to discover more elements from the relics.
